Orthotics and Biomechanical assessment

Biomechanics is the medical and scientific understanding of the function and movement of the body.

Orthotics are any device provided which alters the biomechanics of the lower limbs and helps realign the body and reduce pain. Orthotics can range from very simple off the shelf devices to custom made devices.

At Monkstown Physiotherapy Clinic, your initial assessment involves assessment of your walking pattern, lower limb mobility and strength and control. Your footwear will also be assessed and advice given as appropriate. Not everyone needs orthotics; sometimes advice and a simple exercise programme can do the trick!

Children can often require support/correction as they grow and we are happy to see children of any age. Again, sometimes strengthening exercises and/or footwear advice are all that is required.
